COSCO Heavy Industries partners with Newport Shipping

BEIJING: The ship repair sector COSCO Heavy Industries (CHI) signed a letter of intent with Newport Expedition join the latter’s worldwide network of shipyards.

The letter of intent will see five of COSCO Heavy Industries’ ship repair yards become Newport Shipping partner shipyards. The five yards are: CHI Nantong, CHI Shanghai, CHI Zhoushan (pictured), CHI Dalian and CHI Guangdong.

Mr. Lianghui Xia, General Manager, Oslo, Newport Shipping, commented : “We are honored to have COSCO as our new shipyard partner. The addition of five COSCO Group repair yards will significantly strengthen our global service network. It remains an integral part of our strategy to offer first-class dry-docking and refurbishment services to our customers. And we will make sure to stay on track.

The addition of the five yards will increase Newport Shipping’s capacity by 19 additional berths and 1,300 dry-docking slots per year. Overall, this means Newport Shipping will have access to a total of 20 shipyards, 57 wharves and 3,800 dry-docking slots per year.

Newport Shipping UK LLP was established in the UK in 2011 with experience in managing, designing, building and repairing ships dating back to the 1960s. dry docking, modernization, repair and low carbon conversions in 20 yards with 57 docks capable of handling approximately 3,800 repairs per year of all classes and sizes of vessels.
